Oz smiled and nodded towards Buffy as she gave him and his band props on being pretty good. The guitar was a little sloppy and their singer hadn't hit the note quite as high as he was supposed to. But all and all the show was going on pretty well. He was proud of the band on most nights, even if he knew he could likely do a bit better for himself.
"Thanks."
He made sure to at least thank her for the comment. It wasn't every day that he had the cute blonde from school give his band the thumbs up. And he could use any bit of publicity he could get. Cute girls usually brought in more people, even if they were horny guys. A fan was a fan, and that only boosted their numbers for their shows. What was the point in complaining about any of those sorts of things?
Willow had made the comment about Xander wanting to be with Buffy, and it forced him to purse his lip just a bit, and look towards the two. They seemed okay enough, even if she didn't seem all that interested in him. She could probably do worse, he seemed happy enough to be just standing near her though.
"He could just ask. Get all the confusion and angst out of the way."
What was the worst that would happen? She'd say no and there would be a few awkward days before things went back to normal. People always put so much on simple questions, and it wasn't a big thing to him in most regards. People were people, and they all had the same basic wants and desires. He was trying his best not to make Willow feel uncomfortable, but he wasn't going to leave her here by herself either. It didn't take much to notice that she was a pretty delicate sort. It almost felt odd that her friends felt that he was so harmless to leave him with her. But, could be worse. He could have a creepy vibe coming off of him.
"Been playing for about 6 years. Seen you here before too I think. I always thought you two were going out actually."
That was the main reason he hadn't actually bothered to talk to her much before, or him for that matter. He didn't like to impose on couples. It wasn't his style, heck, he rarely talked much as it was so imposing on anybody felt a bit off to the Oz. It was easier to just assume things and not bother people. There would be more time to focus on his music in those cases. He had to admit though, there was something about her that was a bit more attractive then he would let on. Whether it was the innocence, or just that she was different from every other girl that he had ever talked to, he wasn't quite sure but he was willing to find out.
Oz looked her over, head going way up, and way to the left as he tried to examine her eye closely. Time for him to get a bit flirty,
"Hold still."
He muttered out, reaching out to gently cup the red-head's cheek and looking directly into her eye. He nodded slowly, smirking a bit before letting his fingertips slide off of her smooth, flawless face.
"Yeah. You got it."
His gaze moved back towards the stage, they seemed to be doing okay still, like they didn't even realize he was missing. Those guys really didn't do much with the music did they? Just loved the fact that it got them the ladies. He noticed that Xander and Buffy seemed to be looking elsewhere. He returned his gaze to Willow, as if nothing had really happened although that was more about not wanting to linger on what he may have done wrong as well. It was hard to tell with some women, but he was sure the look in her eyes would let him know what he was doing was way off, or on base.
"I think they spotted somebody they don't like."
He pointed out there, noticing their piercing glances. Apparently someone was not on their X-Mas list. And it appeared to be Cordy and her new dates...Jealousy maybe?

Cordelia led Marcus to the dance floor. She wasn't sure about this guy. For one she had never seen him before, and being in a small town such as Sunnydale, you pretty much always knew everybody. And something about this guy just rubbed her the wrong way. But this guy did save her from the embarrassment she would have surely gone through. She knew Xander had something to do it, and so she was plotting her revenge against him in her head. Besides it was a nice distraction from trying to come up with a conversation with this dull guy.
As Cordelia was dancing with the strange guy she noticed quite a few people looking at her. Which wasn't uncommon, but it was people who didn't normally show how enamored they were with her. She saw that red headed Irish girl that she met earlier at school dancing close by, and she kept looking back at Cordelia. Also Buffy and Xander were dancing nearby, and they weren't that sneaky, she could tell that they kept looking her way. She wandered what was going on tonight, everyone seemed so strange.
Marcus didn't seem altogether sane from the beginning of meeting her, but she was trying to be polite since he saved her from all the public embarrassment thing. But now he was acting weirder. He kept pulling Cordelia closer and she kept inching her way back. He leaned in close and in felt like he was sniffing her neck!
"Hey buddy! Ever heard a thing called PERSONAL SPACE!"
Marcus shot her a look that scared her to her core. There was something so evil about his eyes. She knew that pissing him off might not be the best idea. She contemplated ways to be more slick about getting away from him.
"Sorry. I just have to go to the little girl's room. You know powder my nose?
She backed away from him slowly and started making her way towards the ladies room. This guy was definitely freaking her out. She stalled in the bathroom for about ten minutes. Then he peaked out the door to see if he was hovering nearby. It looked all clear so Cordy made her way out of the bathroom. She hadn't taken but a couple steps out of the bathroom, when she felt someone grab her from behind. It was Marcus. He grabbed her very viciously as Cordy shrieked "Hey get your hands off me!!" But they were right by the exit, and the music was so loud that she didn't know if anyone heard her. She was so scared as he pulled her toward the exit door.

*Buffy nodded to Xander as if enquired about her wiggins.
~Yeah, something is majorly up.. as in.. vampire.. .. as in.. attached to Cordelia..~ she called out above the loud music.
She laughed as he asked if Cordelia was a vampire, and waited for a few more seconds for him to piece the puzzle together. She nodded again, as he finally realised that the vampire was the guy WITH Cordelia, and turned her attention back to the odd couple.
Buffy tensed all over as she watched the vampire lean in close to Cordelia and appear to go for her neck, but she relaxed slightly as Cordelia returned to her typical form and yelled something at him about personal space. As Buffy watched, Cordelia backed away from him and started heading towards the bathroom. Once she had disappeared inside, Buffy saw Marcus look around quickly before following her and hiding behind a large potted fern near the door to the bathroom. Turning to Xander, she offered him a rueful smile before pulling him closer to her. Her breath would be hot on his neck as she said into his ear
~Save the next dance for me okay Xand? I got work to do..~
Making her way quickly over to the girl’s bathroom, she was just in time to see Marcus grab Cordelia from behind and start dragging her towards the exit. Despite the lack of privacy here, Buffy knew it would be better to do this out of sight of Cordelia of all people, so she casually pulled her stake out of her jacket as she walked past and behind Marcus, before staking him through the back, straight through his heart. The arms around Cordelia vanished into a pile of ash and Buffy vanished into the girl’s bathroom.
Taking a few minutes to dust the ash off her clothes and out of her hair, Buffy reapplied her lipstick and washed her hands. Leaving the bathroom, she headed straight over to Xander and continued dancing with him. The song hadn’t even ended yet. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she grinned up at him as her hips swayed in time to the music, the euphoria she always felt from a staking making her eyes glow.
~That’s gotta be a new personal best Xand!~ she called out. ~Punk to ash in less than five seconds flat!~

Willow shook her head with a slightly sad smile on her lips.
~Oh he has asked her.. already.. several times. Well, okay.. so maybe not “Asked” as in actually said anything, but she knows how he feels.. and she .. doesn’t feel the same…~
Willow looked over at Buffy and Xander as they danced together. Despite her resolve to put her feelings for Xander out of her head, she still felt that little stab in her heart as she watched them together. Forcing her attention back to the guy that was actually sitting in front of her and talking to her, Willow tried to fix a casual relaxed smile on her lips. She gulped as Oz told her that not only had he noticed her presence before, but that he had actually thought she and Xander were a couple. Just barely managing not to snort her Coke out of her nostrils out of surprise, she swallowed her sip before she laughed.
~Me and Xander? Ha! Noooooooooooooooooooo.. that would never happen… like.. EVER!~ She didn’t add that it wouldn’t happen because Xander would never like her that way. This guy already seemed to know her better than she would have liked.
Her next sentence was knocked out of what passed as her brain these days, when he told her to hold still and reached out to gently cup her cheek while his eyes seemed to penetrate hers. Her breath caught in her throat and she was literally frozen in her seat as he stared into her eyes. As though she left her body for a few moments and was now floating high above the table, Willow saw herself lean forward just enough so that her lips could meet his in what would be her first real kiss. Butterflies exploded into flight in her belly and her legs began to shake like jelly.
She was dragged out of her floaty happy by his words. Something about Buffy and Xander not liking something…
Willow blinked and the spell was broken. She was back in her chair, trembling slightly while she reached a shaky hand out for her Coke and followed his gaze out to the dance floor. Watching them both, she saw them looking at Cordelia. Groaning under her breath, Willow shrugged her shoulders as she turned back to her drink.
~Oh trust me, nobody likes Cordelia. ~
Willow looked over at Buffy and Xander in time to see Buffy leave the dance floor and head to the girls bathroom. Every ounce of her being wanted to follow her, and seek the sanctity of the girl’s bathroom, but instead she forced herself to stay here and try to engage in what she hoped would pass as some form of witty conversation.
~So what does “Oz” stand for anyways? Are you a fan of munchkins and walking talking scarecrows or something…~ she trailed off as she clamped her mouth shut and forbid herself to say anything else until he did. *

Xander froze as Buffy leaned close ‘come on cheek, get you your happy maker’ he thought, but as Buffy spoke he realised she wasn’t going to make his daydream fantasy come true. Xander nodded and watched as Buffy went off to her job of stabbing monsters with XXL toothpicks. He looked around and realised now he wasn’t with a couple, he was in that loser place where people danced alone and hoped someone would take pity on them and take them out back and shoot them in the head.
“Of all the guys in all the world I have to be the grade-A loser”
He muttered as he started dancing, well swaying really, in an attempt to try and not look like Mr Losey Loser of Loserville. He looked around to see if he could see Buffy or Cordy or Will, but Will was at the table getting all chatty to the band guy. He just hoped that Oz was going to be good to Will; he’d hate to have to bribe him with candy to go away.
He was about to give up on the dancing when he saw Buffy return, looking fantastic as per usual. He beamed, a smile that just grew as she put her arms around his neck and actually danced with him, he went off to happy land where they were older and dating and he was a wealthy stockowner who traded wealthy stocks… his fantasies were varied and strange. He nodded happily
“I give you a ten for results, but you lose marks for not letting him have a nibble of Cordy first”
Xander said boogying on down like mad. That’s when he spotted the flash of light from the doorway. He turned his head to look at it
“Something tells me that’s not the Delorian hitting 88”
He said, having learned from Giles’ rambling that bright white lights off in the distance never meant anything good, but he was dancing with Buffy so he didn’t want to stop. He looked around and tried to keep dancing
“So are we checking the lights now or are we hoping it was a bulb blowing and keeping our dance going?”
