History Class (Open) [EP: 01 SC:01]

Xander sat in the back of the classroom, doodling as usual. The teacher was going on about… war of peace or pie he wasn’t quite sure, though since it was history class it was a fairly safe bet that it wasn’t about pie. He was just happy that Willow and him had the exact same classes, she always took her notes and he wasn’t against copying them. He leaned over and handed a note to willow.

Please tell me you got this all written down Will, cos I swear it’s not in English

Was written on the note. He was not very good with the learning, it drove him mad sometimes and with Xander, going mad was not a good thing considering he was pretty much there 24/7.

“Allright, who can tell me when the battle of Waterloo took place?”

Xander looked at Willow wide-eyed, he barely knew when the battle of the bands was on at the Bronze let alone when some battle about, what he assumed was a toilet. He just shrunk down lightly hoping that he didn’t get called on.

*Willow couldn’t help but roll her eyes as she grinned at Xander while shooting her hand up straight in the air. Their teacher saw her raise her hand, but despite no one else in the entire class offering an answer she STILL didn’t choose Willow. Wriggling in her seat like a puppy about to pee itself, Willow stretched her hand up even higher. She knew this answer! It was one of the things she had read about first when she had picked up the text book and read it during one of her so called “free periods”. While most of her classmates used the time to gossip about who was dating who and who had scored a touchdown in last Friday nights game, Willow had spent the entire time skimming through her text book for history and this had been one of the areas she had read over.

Suddenly though, the realisation of what she was actually doing finally dawned on her and Willow went bright red. If she put her hand up and the teacher DID call on her, all eyes would be on her. Even when she did answer correctly, it would only fuel everyone’s opinion about her, that she was a “brain”.. a “geek”. While it was nothing she should be ashamed about, Willow definitely didn’t want to draw more attention to herself. Lowering her hand quickly, she tried to shrink down in her seat, but it was too little too late as the teacher sighed and said

"Alright then Miss Rosenberg… the answer is…?"

Willow gulped and mumbled

~Uh… the battle of Waterloo, happened near the township of Waterloo in Belgium, South of Brussels on Sunday June 18 in 1815…~

she snapped her mouth shut to stop the useless information babbling out of her mouth as she blushed an even deeper red. She heard someone whisper behind her and then the sound of snickering reached her burning ears. Cringing, she looked down at the note in front of her again and scribbled underneath Xanders childlike print:

Of course I’ve written it down Xand, and yes, you can copy my notes.

She wanted to sign the note with several x’s to signify the kisses she would love to send his way, but instead she drew a rather lopsided smiley face due to her still slightly shaking hands. Almost as an afterthought, she wrote

P.S Are we Bronzing tonight??

Flicking it back over to his desk, Willow tried to concentrate on the rest of the lesson but it was useless. All she could think about was the way that Xanders soft dark brown hair curled around the back of his earlobe… *

Xander didn’t even fake pretend shock when Willow shot her hand into the air. In fact if she didn’t know the answer he would have worried more. For two reasons, the first being that it wouldn’t be his Willster if she didn’t know, and of course the fact that he intended to copy off of her so if she didn’t know the answer than he was screwed. He kinda felt bad that he didn’t know, but then again knowing would involve studying and if Xander studied that’d be a sign of the apocalypse… which since he’d met Buffy the word apocalypse seemed less like a joking about thing. He was just happy that the teacher had decided not to call on him, since he was officially the one who was sinking lowest in his chair, just beating the guy in the second row who was sinking almost as far but he didn’t have the question dodging skills.

The instant the teacher called on Willow for an answer he sat up straight, like he’d been doing it the whole time. All the teachers knew not to call on him anyway, he never really paid attention in class, he didn’t see any reason to learn things. He only did it as a way to get out of the house for 8 hours in a day, and he only passed at all because of Willow translating all of the homework into Xander speak which helped him just managed to get a C average, it’d get him through he wasn’t wanting much more.

He heard the snickering and turned around and glared, hating it when people mocked his bestest best friend. He knew he couldn’t take them if it came to fisticuffs but still his glares were getting better. They didn’t shrink in their sets like he kinda hoped, but they did shut the heck up, so he took that as a win. He turned around with a smile and a sense of pride.

The note landed on his desk with a few bounces. He took it in his hand and opened it. He breathed a sigh of relief and scribbled a quick not back

Thanks Will, you saved my butt

He bit the end of his pencil once, a slightly bad habit that had hung around since he was a kid. Sometimes he could spend entire lessons just nibbling at his pencil. He shook his head and added his own PS

P.S. When do we not go Bronzing?

Then he had an after-afterthought

P.P.S. Is Buff doing Slayer stuff with Giles? Reckon we can get her to go to the bronze with us?

He said, folding the paper and handing it sneakily over to Willow, then going off in his own happy dreamland, thinking about Buffy. He just thought she was hot, why couldn’t he get a girl like that? Heck he didn’t want a girl like that, he wanted that girl, just had to figure out how the hell to get Buffy to go on a date with him. He was contemplating actually asking her but that could lead to embarrassment and rejection.

Cordelia just sat in her history class, waiting for it to be over. She need to go to the mall after school and get the cutest pair of Jimmy Choo's she had ever seen. She had to have those shoes, they were the epitome of wealth, class, and appeal just like she was.

She looked at the clock .... it had only been five minutes since she had been dreaming about her extravagant footwear. This class is NEVER going to end! I swear if some skank gets to MY shoes before I will just die! Noone knows heartache like me!, Cordelia thought.

Cordelia decided to pass the time the best way she knew how, judge everyone's style and appearance. There isn't enough time in the world to say what is wrong with all these fashion victims... Let's see... Harmony, she is such a sheep. I told her to wear lime green fishnets, because it would bring out her eyes (her eyes are brown)...and she actually did. Oh God, I am so funny! Now who.... Willow, you would think she would change her style, seeing as though she has been wearing th same style of outfits, since the fourth grade! Tragic....seriously! Now who... Xander Harris... where do I start? You would think he would show off his arms a bit, he has really nice arms, a sweet smile, and eyes that are as deep as....... STOP IT, CORDY! Gross, he is a loser, get focused on men that actually matter... Jimmy Choo, Oscar De La Renta, Xander shirtless with waer trickling down his chest...
COME ON CORDELIA, GET A GRIP!!

Xander slowly broke out of his Buffy-induced trance, though not by much, and stared at the clock. There had to be a way to speed it up by staring at it, had to be. There wasn’t that long to go,

“Come on come on”

he muttered under his breath, his feet bouncing lightly on the floor. School sucked, he just didn’t like it at all. He was oh so glad that after this class was a subject he was an expert on, lunch. That one he didn’t need to study for and he could actually enjoy. If there was a pop-tart quiz he’d pass it. He was praying that it’d be lunch soon

“Right now who can tell me who won the battle of waterloo?”

Damnit, the teacher seemed determined to make them learn things. He thought about sinking into his chair again and was just about to when the teacher caught his eye, in slow motion he knew what she was going to say before she said it, he wanted to run, to flee, to get out of the line of fire before…

“Mr Harris, tell me who won the battle of waterloo?”

’Crap’ he thought. He thought hard, his head hurt from thinking. He looked over to Will, worry in his eyes, if it was English lit he might be able to make stuff up, but history was the one subject he couldn’t BS his way out of

“Uh… One of the people in it?”

He thought it sounded logical and made sense… but the sniggers coming from around him begged to differ. He shrunk in his chair from embarrassment and turned a shade of red that any painter would want in their paintbox.

*Willow expertly caught and unfolded the note from Xander out of the prying gaze of their teacher. She smiled after she read his words, and nodded to herself as she wrote back:

Sounds good. I’ll meet you there about six? And yeah, Buffy is patrolling with Giles, but she said she might come by the Bronze when she’s finished.

Willow sighed as she glanced over at Xander and saw the dreamy expression on his face. He was obviously thinking about Buffy, and Willow tried to ignore the stabbing pain in her heart that this realisation caused her. Folding the note she threw it back over to his desk, sighing deeply to herself as she felt another pair of eyes on her.

Turning around slightly in her seat, she gulped as she realised it was Cordelia Chase who was looking her way. Willow could tell by the slight snarl in her eyes and lips that she whatever she was thinking about Willow wasn’t the kind of thing you would put on a Hallmark card. As she gazed at Cordelia however, she saw her attention turn to Xander and she was surprised to see Cordelia’s expression soften somewhat. In fact, if Willow didn’t know better, it would seem that Cordelia was actually sharing a similar expression to Xander as he thought of his beloved Buffy. As though she had caught herself just in time, Cordelia seemed to quickly overcome this oversight and Willow turned back around just in time to see the teacher zeroing in on poor Xander.

Willow had no time to whisper the answer to him, instead she could only offer him a slightly hopeful smile as he struggled to answer. Of course, his wit and humour came to his rescue once again, but judging by the snickers in the classroom and the look on their teachers face, it wasn’t the best of answers he could of produced. She felt bad for him as she watched him sink down into his seat, and was glad when she looked at the clock and saw it was only a few more minutes before the bell would ring.

Hang in there Xand… she thought. *

Cordelia had recovered from her moment of temporary insanity. She couldn't believe she was having tingly thoughts about Xander Harris. That was crazy!

I must need to eat something, that is it. I must be feeling faint. That has to be it. I mean, it is Xander Harris! Nerd-o-Rama!

Cordelia tried to justify her feelings to herself. She just felt sick to her stomach. She looked at the clock, it was almost time for class to finally end. It couldn't come soon enough. Cordelia forced her mind back to her beautiful Jimmy Choo's she was going to get after school. All she had to do was to get more money from her dad, which was going to easy. Cordelia was definitely a daddy's girl. But as her mind was racing at the thought of such beautiful shoes, the teacher had called on Xander. And asked him who had won the battle of waterloo. Cordelia smirked as Xander stumbled on an answer. He actually said "one of the people in it?".

Come on, thanks Xander at reminding me how much of a loser you really are. Everyone knows who won the Battle of Waterloo, it was.....Well, that isn't the point, the point is....Xander is a moron.

Cordelia confused herself with the question, while pondering the current situation. Five minutes left. She went back to thinking about her new shoes, she would in no doubt have. She also thought about going to the Bronze, dancing, and being the object of many teenage boys affection. Four minutes and counting. She had to admit the look on Xander's face when he was trying to figure out the answer, knowing he no idea, was pathetic, but also kind of cute. He had a very boyish charm about it. Cordelia tried to shake off the wretched thoughts of admiration and looked at the clock once more.

Xander felt like the biggest idiot in all of idiotville… which at the moment he was. He tried to ignore the sniggers and giggles, he was OK with them normally when he was intending to get them, but when it was because of actual stupidness then he had a minor problem with it. He looked over at Will, knowing she’d probably told him the answer at some point.

Just then the bell rang, the horror that was history was over, the funness that was Lunch could actually being. He stood up and started packing his gear when the teacher walked up to him

“Mr Harris, I’m going to need you to stay after school next week for some revision, your test scores are less than satisfactory”

Xander shrunk slightly, his scores only sucked because the class was boring as all hell. He would have argued the point, giving an impassioned speech about how he had a life but knew there was no point in arguing with the teacher. He just nodded lightly

“Also would you tell your friend Buffy that she must turn up as well for some catch up work”

Suddenly his cloud had a silver lining. He nodded a little more enthusiastically and finished packing his stuff up. He threw his bag over his shoulder and walked with Will

“Well that both sucks and rules. You gonna join us in our forced studyage Will? Help be translator for me?”

She could also do wing-girl duties, help him build up the nerve to say something to Buffy along the lines of ‘date me’ He headed for the door that was wide open, most of the other students pouring out of it.

“Finally something I’m good at, lunch time here we come”

*As she gathered up her books, Willow sent Xander a sympathetic smile. Just when she thought he had escaped relatively unscathed from the class, their teacher told him he would need to stay back next week for extra revision and criticized his test scores. Willow fumed silently. Poor Xander. The teacher didn’t have to say it front of the whole class like that! She could have easily called Xander aside and said the same thing to him PRIVATELY. Picking up her stuff, Willow shook her head slightly as she fell into step beside Xander.

Keeping pace with him step by step, Willow laughed slightly as he asked if she would stay back with he and Buffy to be their translator.

~I don’t think I would be allowed to even if I wanted to Xand. But you know Im always just a phone call away if you and Buff want to call me after class to revise… or… I could always come over your place, or you come over mine?~

she trailed off hopefully, though her hopes were soon dashed as she saw the dreamy look back on his face at the mention of Buffy. Willow sighed. She should be used to this by now!

As they walked down the hallway to the cafeteria, Willow thought of the ham and cheese sandwich she had sitting in her locker. She hated the cafeteria food as a rule, but she would wait to see what Xander was going to do. If he went to his locker to get his lunch, she would join him, but if he decided to brave the cafeteria food then she guessed she would to.

Wondering if they would run into Buffy soon, Willow snuck a sideways glance at Xander and waited to see what he would do. *

*Buffy rolled her eyes and refrained from offering Giles a mock salute as he finished his latest lecture about how she alone had been chosen to fight the darkness blah blah blah. She was sick of the lectures, sick of patrols, and sick of vampires. The only good thing about it all was that she got out of class but as she picked up her bag from the library floor she saw her History book fall out, causing her to slap her forehead.

Damn it! She thought. Her teacher had told her that if she missed any more classes she would be in danger of the dreaded “Summer school”. Buffy had sworn she would make good on her promise to attend more regularly, yet here she was again, missing another class. Glaring at Giles, she offered him a rather flippant ~Later!~ as she bounced out of the Library.

Despite her mood, Buffy walked with the definite bounce in her step that only training could provide. The release of adrenalin and those endorphin thingies that Giles was always waffling on about made her feel all tingly, and as she walked down the hallway, she grinned at the sight of Xander and Willow just up ahead.

Quickening her pace so that she was soon caught up with them, Buffy shoved her bag over her shoulder as she slid in between the two of them, linking her arms with them both and grinning from ear to ear.

~So tell me, what did I miss? Did old dragon lady throw a fit cause I was absent again?~*

Oz was a little late to class, but he never really bothered to show up on time. It just wasn't in his nature. There wasn't really anything going on, he just wasn't about to hurry after his conversation about their next gig. They were going to play at the Bronze tonight and had to go over the setlist. It was just lucky that it happened to be done with before class, instead of during. So many times he just skipped because of his music, because quite frankly, it was the only thing that he could really immerse himself into after that day. The world just wasn't his place all that often, so he put himself into another one. The world of guitar strings and power ballads.

The class was filling up nicely, though his usual back corner seat had been taken. What a jerk. So, instead, he was forced to sit beside Harmony which just pissed him off to no end. She wouldn't shut up about anyone else in the band. He had already made up his mind that tomorrow, he was not coming. He was going to take the time off to just relax. For some reason, just having to talk with, or listen to Harmony Kendall was too much for this passive young man. And he was certainly getting himself out of there quickly. The little group was walking around, arm and arm and it was cute, supposedly. He sometimes missed that part of life, the friendships. But he hadn't been a part of anything in a long time, and didn't see it coming with his future. How could he have friends when 3 nights out of the month, he lost himself?

He still didn't have a real understanding of why, other then that it was happening during full moons. Sure, he had heard stories but none of that was true now was it? Supposedly it wouldn't be the weirdest thing in the world. All that he knew was that on those nights, he really needed to get somewhere private, and strong. He was really tired of waking up naked in the woods. There was only so many times that everyone would believe that it was just another 'good party' over anything else. Heck, Oz wasn't even a drinker so how was he going to have himself a real 'good' party at any point in time? At best, it would be an okay one.

His thoughts quickly pushed away as he noticed that he had been watching the group the whole time. Great, stalker older guy looking at the younger students. That was what all the cool kids were doing. He shook it off and headed for the lunch room. Likely wouldn't eat much, but he had to eat something.

OOC- I know it's not much, but still trying to get into character!

Xander was so not a happy boy, not with the whole having to stay after school for study, he barely did the study thing when he had the choice, he was going to suck majorly if he had no choice but to study. At least Willow seemed to have sympathy for his study problem, mainly the one where he actually had to do it. He frowned slightly

“I think coming over your’s sound like the better plan, I’ll bring the chips. All night study party?”

He didn’t want Buffy to see his house, Willow had and that was bad enough, it wouldn’t exactly win him any favours with the girl he had a crush on if she had to see his hell house of horrors.

He walked down towards the Cafeteria, he hadn’t actually packed a lunch this morning, he was to busy sleeping in. The cafeteria food in general sucked, he had often suspected that the cafeteria ladies were trying to kill them all with food poisoning, but it was a lot easier to convince his mom to give him lunch money than it was to convince her to make a sandwich so he would go with that horrible food of badness.

He felt Buffys arm linking with his and went all speech free, he tried really quickly to learn to talk ‘Now remember, you open your mouth and words come out, it’s not that difficult’ he thought to himself. He knew he had the perfect topic, after school school, ‘SPEAK DAMNIT’

“Yeah she did, well less of a fit more of a hissy. Looks like you and me will be joining old miss Dragon in after school classes Buff”

It wasn’t much but it was better than nothing whatsoever. The Caferteria was in sight, looked like a lot of people had the same thought as he had in the not being bothered to make lunch.

“Today’s not mystery meat day is it? Cos I so don’t need any more mystery in my day… will since I screwed it royal, who did win that Waterloo thing?”

He knew he should know that, it was kinda a big thing, but it was history and really who needed to know that?

A new bloody school oh yeah, I had not been looking forward to today, and so far I had been right not to. I really found myself wishing that I was back in L.A., or gods forbid even in bleeding Slane. Any place would be better than here. The whole atmosphere or the town gave me the bloody creeps, it made my skin crawl. Why Gran had thought that living on the mouth of hell, would be good for me I didn’t bloody well know. Mum didn’t know of course, she was always oblivious to the supernatural, even with two daughters as witches. Da had just told her that we were moving here, because he had wanted to open up an other dojo, and of course Mum had gone for it.

There was one good thing about Sunnydale that I had found so far, yesterday Mum had taken me to the mall and spoiled me a bit, she knew I wasn’t happy about leaving all my mates back in L.A. The mall was a surprise, I could at least still dress in the style that I was accustomed to. So for my first day at hellmouth central I was dressed in style. Mum had gotten me the cutest little Oscar de la Renta dress, the perfect shade of green to match my eyes, and the sweetest pair of Jimmy Choo shoes, with heels that make my long legs look even longer. I had a new Prada bag to carry my books in too. Mum had spent an lot of money, wanting me to make an impression on my new classmates. Da wouldn’t mind we could afford it, he had made bundles as an stuntman in the moves, and was still making money with his dojo, now that he had retired. Really I couldn’t careless if I made and impression or not. I had been hoping that Da and Gran would change their minds and decided to go back to L.A soon. Though that didn’t look likely anytime soon.

So far my whole day had been a bloody mess, it seemed that somehow my transcripts form L.A had not arrived in Sunnydale yet, and I spent half the day in the principles office, talking to the very strange principle. The bloke even had a odd name. Mr. Flutie? Where did he come up with that? With in minutes he had been asking me to call him Bob, then contradicting himself when I did saying no one else did. The bloke was strange that was for sure.

After spending hours in Mr. Flutie’s office I was sent to the library to get my school books. Just as I was going into the place, this pretty lass with blond hair came out. Now that is not the strange part, what was strange was the power I felt coming off of her. I had been trained from birth to be a witch so was really sensitive to aura’s of others. This girls felt strange, a bit like an demon, but I didn’t sense any evil coming from her. I would defiantly have to mention her to Gran. Perhaps she knew what the lass was. The next odd thing was the librarian himself. At first appearances the bloke appeared to be very much the upper class English man. Of course being Irish my self that set me a bit on edge. Though he seemed a nice enough bloke at first glance. Then I noticed his aura, it was a strange mixture of evil and good. Far more good, though the man had touched evil a time or two in his life. He was the first person that I had met here that could do magic, though he didn’t have much power, he had a bit. Something else to mention to Gran once I got home this afternoon.

Mr. Giles, as the librarian’s name turned out to be quickly helped me to get all the books that I needed for my classes. As he was fetching them, I couldn’t help looking around the library a bit. Most of the books were ones you would find in a normal high school library, though I came upon a section that I had never seen in my school library back at home. I was a bit surprised to find several books on demons, some of which Gran had copies of back home. When Mr. Giles had seen the books I was looking at he had quickly ushered me out of the library, giving me and excuse for the history class I had just missed. I now had to take the note to my new history teacher, then head to lunch. I guess I would actually get to attend my first class after lunch. I was so not looking forward to it.

As I got to the history class room, everyone was filling out. Class was over and it was time for lunch. The first person I saw out of the classroom was a pretty lass with dark hair, and dressed not all that much different from me. The girl had taste and money I could tell, and I wondered if she was a snob like so many girls were back in LA., that dressed much the same. I guess I would find out before long, if she noticed my clothes or shoes at all. I saw the blond girl from the library again, and nodded to her, she had a couple of people with her. The first was a lad with dark hair a bit taller than me even with my heels on. The blond girl linked arms with him as the walked past me. It was the other lass that was with them that drew my attention and caused me to stare just a bit. She was about my height, and had the same color hair as I, her taste in clothes was pretty sad. It looked kind of like her mother had dressed her. Some one should help the poor lass. I was sure her sense of dress, put her pretty far down on the social scale. Though that is not what made me stare at her. I could feel power from her, just like my own. Though the girl didn’t even realize it. How could such a powerful witch walk around and not even know she was a witch? The only other student that had drew my attention was a bloke with strange hair, who walked past me. I had to say my mouth opened wide at seeing this one. He was a bloody werewolf. I was more than a bit surprised to see that though I quickly closed my mouth, not wishing to draw attention to myself. I shook my head and entered the class room. I had lots to talk with Gran about now. Perhaps she had been right in brining me to Sunnydale. I had only been in the school for a few hours, and had already run into more supernatural creatures in that time than the whole time I had lived in L.A.

I had handed my note to the teacher who had given me the assignment for the next class. Lots of reading on the battle of Waterloo. It made me roll my eyes, I already had studied that so would have no homework for this class it seem. I would read over the book as it was different from my old school, but when one had a photographic memory, studying really came easy. I could have been in college by now, like Aleria who had finished high school at fifteen, though my parents had decided that I should have the full high school bloody experience. So I was stuck here with boring classes, just because my parents had decided they had made a mistake with Aleria letting her finish school early.

I finished with my new history teacher and headed for the cafeteria for lunch. My mum hadn’t had time to pack me a lunch before she started her shift at the hospital, so I was to get something here. Though from the smells coming from the place, I wasn’t entirely sure that would be a safe option. I went through the line getting only a coke, and a cookie that looked pretty safe. I would eat something better after school. Then looked around the crowded lunch room for a place to sit. I guess it was time to socialize and all that rot, get to know some of my fellow students. I looked for a friendly face in the crowd. Maybe someone would take pity on the new girl and offer her a place to sit.
